PHOTOS: IDF Navy Exercise Simulates War In Northern Israel

As many infantry and other units must do from time-to-time, the Israel Navy must also train towards remaining prepared for every eventuality. Last week, the navy engaged in a training exercise to prepare for a war in northern Israel, a major exercise involving aerial support, missile boats, submarines and the elite Shayetet 13, Israel’s Navy SEALS.

The simulated exercise began with an underwater mission at sea, which is discovered by the enemy. It was reported this was the second such exercise involving the navy, and the Air Force has also recently exercised for similar scenarios.

Tensions have risen along Israel’s northern borders, both with Syria and Lebanon in recent months, as Israel continues efforts to prevent the establishment of an Iranian presence in those countries, in proximity to Israel. In addition, Israel is continually monitoring events in those countries pertaining to attempts to provide Hezbollah with advanced weaponry, supplied by Iran, to be used against Israel in future military confrontations.

A number of weeks ago, Israel shot down an Iranian missile over the Golan Heights as well as attacking an advanced weapons shipment in Damascus Airport, all leading to the increased tensions existing today.
