Israel Holds Live Fire Training Drill for Iron Dome and the Patriot System


On Tuesday, Israel held a live fire training drill for the Patriot missile system known as Ma’arechet Yahalom in Hebrew in conjuction with the Iron Dome air defense system and the IAF. Both systems were successful in shooting down live fire projectiles from different altitudes and distances.

The air defense systems, are responsible for protecting Israel’s airspace by utilizing ground forces together with the air force and anti-aircraft and anti-missile systems. It forms the last line of defense against any and all air-based attacks against Israel. These attacks could include enemy aircraft. With regards to ground-to-ground missiles or rocket attacks and ballistic missile attacks, these systems form the first line of defense.

The training drill took place on a military base in the center of Israel and incorporated simulations aimed at testing the proficiency and skill of the soldiers and technicians operating the systems. The drill was part of the yearly drill schedule for the IDF.

According to an IDF Spokesperson, the Air Force and IDF concluded that the simulations and drill overall was a success.
