Israel: 5th Grader Brings Training Grenade That Exploded in School


A fifth grader arrived Thursday morning at his school in the Ramat Negev Regional Council with a training grenade that exploded when he played. There were no casualties and no damage resulted. The police opened an investigation and examined the circumstances that led to the unusual incident.

The Ramat Negev Regional Council said: “Since this is an exceptional event by any standard, the head of the council, Eran Doron, convened the school administration with the security officer of the educational institutions and the director of the education department and the treatment teams.”

“The event is being handled on the safety and emotional level, and a therapeutic staff will provide an emotional response to the students. In addition, details of the event were communicated to all the relevant parties.”

The police spokesperson reported: “The Israel Police received a report that in one of the schools in the regional council in Ramat Negev a fifth grader brought with him a training grenade and a course of action that led to his operation.

“There is no report of damage or casualties, a police sapper on his way to the scene, an investigation was opened,” the police reported.
