After 18 Years, a Prisoner Tried for Murder & From Israel is Extradited from Mexico


Mr. Erez Ekreshevski was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment in 1988 after being convicted on two counts of attempted murder and forgery. He succeeded in fleeing Israel during a 48-hour leave from prison. in 2004, he was arrested in Argentina, but he succeeded in fleeing once again, prior to being turned over to Israeli authorities.

Erez has been a fugitive since 2001, and he was apprehended and extradited to Israel from Mexico and on Wednesday night, he was placed in Nitzan Prison in Ramle, Israel Police and the Israel Prison Authority reports.

He was arrested due to the work of Interpol and Israel Police in South America and Europe. He was convicted of the attempted murders of a father and son in the Carmel marketplace area of Tel Aviv due to a monetary dispute. He was sentenced to 21 years, which was reduced to 18 years following his appeal. After serving three years, he was entitled to a 48-hour leave, using the opportunity to flee.

In 2004, as a result of cooperation between Israel Police and law enforcement agencies abroad, he was apprehended in Argentina, but he succeeded in escaping before he was sent back to Israel.

Now, he is finally back in an Israeli prison.
