Difficulties in Trying to Arrange a Unified Siyum HaShas in Israel

In a few short weeks, lomdei Daf Yomi around the world will complete the 13th cycle of the 7.5-year- limud program. In Eretz Yisrael, the program surrounding a main united siyum still does not exist. According toBeChadrei Chareidim, efforts to have a united siyum for ashkenazim and sephardim is encountering difficulties.

While efforts began to have a united siyum for Shas, Degel Hatorah and Agudas Yisrael communities, it now appears all involved are having difficulty securing a budget.

According to BeChadrei, each of the three parties are responsible to raise NIS 4 million towards covering the NIS 12 million required for a united event.

Without a regular government or a state budget, the parties cannot count on the transition government for funding. Each party is seeking a source for funding in the hope of arranging the siyum. This is not the only problem they face, as they do not have a venue to host the event which would bring tens of thousands of lomdim wishing to participate. Sites selected to date are not being approved by police, who explain they do not meet security and/or safety criteria.

Teddy Stadium is Jerusalem was discussed, even the possibility of using the field to seat thousands of guests, with the ability to have 50,000 guests and a major podium for all the Gedolei Yisrael, Admorim, Roshei Yeshiva and Rabbonim Shlita.

BeChadrei explains that last Friday, after the Teddy Stadium option was discussed, it was ruled out as the head of the Vaad Shabbos, Rabbi Yitzchak Goldknoff reports Teddy Stadium regularly hosts Chilul Shabbos events and therefore, it is not a viable option. Even telling the rav that Shabbos games have not been held there in 20 years, but he was adamant in his refusal.

It remains to be seen if the issues at hand will be resolved in time or if there will not be an achdus siyum for all chareidi Jewry in Eretz Yisrael.

  1. And how does that battle differ from the Agudah/Dirshu battle, with the non-stop bombardment of ads, taking place here in the metro area? What a shame, that for a Torah event of such magnitude, we can’t have shalom.

  2. 3 mill for 50,000 ppl is $60 per person in ey thats alot by isreali standards? and 50,000 ppl means most arent coming ?
yidden come from diff shevatim with diff derachim
its not easy getting yidden together as seen that by mamad har sinia it needed a SPECIAL hearoh to come down for that moment and as soon as it left .. the merivos continued

  3. Considering that Daf Yomi itself was initiated and propogated by Agudas Yisroel (led by the Chofetz Chaim and Gerrer Rebbe on the initiative of Rav Meir Shapiro), the rest of the world who picked up on the Daf Yomi system ought to follow Agudas Yisroel in creating a unified Siyum.
