Closure Order Issued Against the “New” Chevron Yeshiva

A closure order was issued against the New Chevron Yeshiva on Sunday, December 15, 2019, after yeshiva leaders were granted a hearing to plead their case. Israel Fire & Rescue Service issued the closure order, signed by Jerusalem District Commander Nissim Tuito.

According to fire service officials, talmidim learn and sleep in the makeshift structure that lacks any form of safety and security measures required nor does it have any fire protection.

At the end of the hearing, it was decided the yeshiva will be shut immediately due to the worrisome condition of the structure, which also lacks any and all safety and fire prevention requirements.

According to Commander Tuito, he is responsible to protect citizens in his district, as this is a foundation stone of the service. Hence, he is compelled to issue the order due to the condition of the building.

  1. “…which also lacks any and all safety and fire prevention requirements.” Good grief, doesn’t the hanhalah of the yeshiva have any care for the lives of their students? They would rather risk a fatal fire than wait until they’ve obtained a safe building? These guys aren’t negligent, they’re plain mental. Surely they can find some person or organization to fund it. Niftar bochrim can’t learn Torah. Where are their brains?

  2. If the facts here are true, then there should be one or more individuals in jail for putting the lives of these bochurim in danger. After all the tragedies we have read about lately, WHY would anyone in their right mind open a yeshiva and dorm in facilities that do not meet minimum fire safety standards, even on a temporary basis. Its not like there is any shortage of yeshivos in EY. Again, this assumes the facts here are correct which is big assumption.
