ROSH CHODESH KOSEL DRAMA: Porush Recites Tehillim In Knesset In Protest Of Reform MK’s Provocation

Reform Rabbi MK Gilad Kariv (Labor) took cynical advantage of his parliamentary immunity to smuggle a Sefer Torah into the women’s section at the Kosel during Rosh Chodesh Cheshvan tefillos on Thursday morning.

His act was part of the monthly provocation the Women of the Wall (WOW) group engages in every Rosh Chodesh.

Kariv then read from the Torah amidst the women in the WOW group. Blue and White MK Alon Tal also participated in the provocation.

UTJ MK Meir Porush protested the incident shortly after it occurred by entering a meeting of the Knesset’s Constitution, Law and Justice Committee, headed by Kariv, and reciting Pirkei Tehillim aloud.

Kariv, who was initially unaware of Porush’s intentions, first announced that “we’ll respect the Tehillim and wait until Porush finishes.” But Porush continued reciting Tehillim and finally, Kariv warned him to leave. When Porush ignored him, Kariv called the Knesset guards to eject him but Porush then sat down on the floor and refused to move, all the while continuing to recite Tehillim.

Eventually, Kariv gave up and adjourned the session for a break. Porush continued to recite Tehillim during the break as the room emptied out (except for the journalists who stayed to video the newsworthy moment.)

Eventually, the Knesset guards forced Porush out by force. As Porush left the room, he told Kariv: “I’ll continue my protest until you get away from the Kosel. You stay away from the women’s section and I’ll stay away from here.”

“The fact that Gilad Kariv exploits his immunity and persuades other people to violate the status quo at the Kosel and tramples its kedusha is the crossing of a red line that cannot be tolerated,” Porush stated. “It’s a disgrace that must end.”

  2. these are not women___at least women I would desire to know___nor will I speak evil of those who alone will be held accountable by the man above___these women belong to the group LGBTQ, BLM and all other of those amazing evil wheels spinning these days____May those who suffer this horror be soothed

  3. You want to fight these reform atheists. Come out with one hundred thousand chareidim and crush these twenty reform trouble makers.

  4. PR stunt
There is no one genuine in the government. So much chillull hashem happening, much worse than this, but this is the one thing he sits on the floor for. Politics, money, and yiras shomayim do not mix well

  5. This is not a Kiddush Hashem by Porush…. This is a disgrace.

I understand that it may have been a provocation at the Kotel and that this is not our derech. But what real Avera took place? A man reading a Torah in front of women? Nu nu?

    I’m interested in a level-headed rebuttal.

  6. yabia omer. you must be out of your mind!!!!!!!!!!
without torah what do we have? that is how we have survived all the generations, and that is how we will continue to survive until moshiach b’kovar.
when someone desecrates a torah all you can say is “Nu nu” you must be out of your mind, you probably live in a very liberal city and anything that is revered is now considered unimportant or dumb.
    GET A GRIP ON YOURSELF!!!!!!

  7. Anyway….Kugs response is exactly what I DIDN’T want. Incoherent, panicky, not level-headed.

Please indicate which Total desecration occurred. Please indicate which Siman in Shulchan Aruch was violated.

Again, I don’t agree at all with WoW but some perspective here. And sitting on the floor and sobbing is “Kiddush Hashem”? He looked pathetic.

  8. Just because Kariv acts like a clown seeking attention, that doesn’t warrant Porush trying to follow his embarrassing behavior by acting like a bigger clown. The Knesset security personnel should have dragged him out of the hearing room for disrupting the meeting just as they would have done with any other demonstrator. Both Kariv and Porush should grow up and consider the consequences of their antics.

  9. Out of my mind, no yiras shamayim….Nu nu… I have yet to hear of which Siman in S”A he violated.

    I rest my case.

  10. Yabia Omer, we all know how people with your mentality turn out to be, or sometimes it ends up with the descendants…you trample on kedusha, mesorah, daas Yehudis, you end up trampling on halacha.

  11. The issue of the women is Torah im Feminism. Just as when changes were made you heard gevald. Like תורה עם דרך ארץ which is considered by some to be a הוראת שעה and Bais Yaakov and Torah Vodaas having an English department and so many more ….When the Tzadik Rav Hildesheimer tried his new system the followers of Reb Hillel Kolomayer did what they did. Rabbi Porush is following that Mesorah. He is a tzadik.

  12. Meir Porush closed shuls and Yeshivas against the Torah, he is a two face piece of garbage.
At least this government does not hide their agenda with chareidim.
