Justice Minister Gideon Sa’ar on Sunday slammed the Israeli government’s new restrictions intended to thwart the spread of the Omicron coronavirus variant, saying that he thinks that they’re unnecessary.

Israel has banned tourists from entering the country for two weeks, lengthened mandatory quarantine from 24 to 72 hours, and is allowing the Shin Bet to track down those who were exposed to the Omicron variant.

Sa’ar said that he thinks that halting tourism will have “significant economic costs” and shouldn’t be done “without very very strong reasons.”

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett admitted that the government’s steps are “severe” but he feels they are necessary.

Sa’ar and three other ministers, Education Minister Yifat Shasha-Biton, Economy Minister Orna Barbivai, and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Eli Avidar voted on Sunday against the authorization of the Shin bet tracking program.

Avidar and Bennett got into a shouting match during the Cabinet meeting on Sunday when Avidar expressed his opposition to the Shin Bet tracking.

  1. Feel free not too post
You write that 4 voted against but how many voted for it? Please be cautious when dealing with life and death issues.

  2. Ruining the economy will also cause deaths. Depression, suicide, drug overdose, abuse, more.
Enough is enough. We will never run out of variants. Such is viruses. Can’t shut down peoples lives and livelihoods every time. I’m glad to see Some people with common sense. But where are the rest? Sleeping? Hiding in a miklat shaking from a virus they’ve been triple inoculated against? (Yup, we know it doesn’t work)

  3. Avidar and Bennett got into a shouting match during the Cabinet meeting on Sunday when Avidar expressed his opposition to the Shin Bet tracking. Too bad it wasn’t an actual physical fight.

  4. Stupid government (some are out right evil)
They will do anything to force people to focus on vaccination while blocking all other treatments that are far more effective than the jab

    Pure Rishos
You want to vaccinate yourselves FINE, but don’t block other treatments!!!

  5. Sariray, correct correct, correct.
Protest vociferously, while that right remains.
There are safer options, and must be recognized and honored.
