Israelis reacted with shock and dismay on Monday to the US-Iran deal announced by President Trump on Sunday, with many expressing the sentiment that “Israel has been left alone and that “Trump has abandoned Israel.”

Finance Minister Betzalel Smotrich stated, “The agreement with Iran is bad for Israel and for the entire free world. Period.”

Smotrich also slammed the opposition figures who took advantage of the situation to cast blame on Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, saying: “None of those who see themselves as candidates for prime minister could withstand even ten percent of the pressure currently being applied to the Israeli government, and especially to its leader.”

Senior Arab affairs i24NEWS commentator Tzvi Yechezkeli slammed the deal, saying that it is similar to the 2015 nuclear deal signed by President Obama. “Trump rushed into an agreement, abandoned Israel, his partner in the war, and caused us enormous damage,” he said. “The Iranians are demanding that we withdraw from Lebanon; there’s no discussion about its missile program, and they continue talking about destroying Israel. That is their picture of victory.”

He asserted that even if the White House denies some of the reported details, the essence of the agreement resembles the nuclear deal signed with Iran in 2015. “It’s exactly the same agreement,” he said. “They told Iran: take your time, we’ll look the other way and go to sleep. Trump left us alone.”

“This is very alarming,” Yechezkeli said. “Something is happening that will have a very significant impact on Israel, perhaps even more dangerous than the situation before the previous war.”

Yechezkeli pointed to reports from Pakistani mediators describing substantial gains for Iran, including sanctions relief, access to frozen assets, a ceasefire on multiple fronts, demands for an Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon, and the creation of a massive reconstruction and investment fund.

He said that, according to the Iranian version of the agreement, Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile and nuclear facilities will remain in place while Tehran gains a central role in overseeing traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

“From their perspective, this is justice,” he said. “You came to fight us, so now you will pay, compensate us, and apologize. That’s how Iran views this agreement.”

“Our leadership is being tested now,” he said. “We cannot accept this, not in Lebanon and certainly not in Iran. If Trump ties our hands, we have a serious problem.”

Yehezkeli concluded by referring to the beginning of the Hebrew month of Tammuz. “In 17 days we will begin the Three Weeks. The Strait of Hormuz has been opened and the world feels that everything is fine, but other great straits are approaching us,” he said. “We will overcome them as well, if we face the dangers without Trump—who does not understand the Middle East—tying our hands.”

“Trump’s lack of understanding has placed us in a serious strategic problem,” Yehezkeli concluded. “The Iranians emerged from this war with an agreement that gives them money, power, and a sense of justice, and in return they gave words.”

Channel 14 journalist Yinon Magal did not mince words about the deal, saying: “Trump came out a loser.”

Magal claimed that Trump succumbed to pressure from U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, and Vice President J.D. Vance, whom he accused of advancing Qatari interests at Israel’s expense.

In his post, Magal also used harsh and derogatory language toward Witkoff and Kushner, accusing them of having their influence “bought” by Qatar and of having “sold out their brothers in Israel.”

Magal also criticized the Gulf states, arguing that they feared a continuation of the war and agreed to funnel billions of dollars to Iran in order to restore stability to the region.

“So we are left alone,” he wrote. “And we will win alone—כי נצח ישראל לא ישקר.”
