WATCH: Mossad Chief Dances At Chareidi Nephew’s Wedding

Mossad head Dovid Barnea attended the chasunah of his Chareidi nephew on Tuesday evening in Modiin Illit.

His nephew is the son of his brother, Reb Zohar Barnea, who became frum when he was 13 and later became a Breslover chassid.

The video below shows him dancing with his brother and the Breslover mashpiah Reb Elimelech Zilbiger, the son-in-law of Hagaon HaRav Yizchok Tuvia Weiss, z’tl.

Reb Barnea and his son were at Meron the year of the disaster and almost lost their lives in the crush. He later said in an interview with the Hebrew Mishpacha that “people around me were being crushed to death but I myself was sort of in a protected side bubble.”

He added that he went to Meron that year at his brother’s request. “His appointment as the head of the Mossad was about to be decided, whether he or another candidate would get the position. He asked if I would go to Meron and daven that he would get the position. I did it gladly.”

  1. It’s so funny to see things like this. In america it’s so hard to get connections to high ppl in power but in isreal it’s like oh the mossad chief? That’s my brother I’ll ask him lol

  2. J92: What were you talking about? In America they say you need to speak to the President of the United States? Hey, no problem. I’ll give my dad a call and ask him to speak to you.

  3. Imagine Ted Cruz or Matt Gaetz sitting down for a beer with Adam Schiff or AOC. (Actually, the latter is not totally unimaginable since Gaetz and AOC have actually con-sponsored some populist legislation).

  4. His name is David, not Dovid, Barnea. YWN has been increasingly ashkenazifying the names of secular Israeli personages, which is troubling. While naming someone using a variant of the Ashkenazic pronunciation is more or less innocuous in conversation, doing so in print – on a news site, no less – unsolicitedly grants them the imprimatur of a very specific cultural milieu to which they have no connection. In other words, it misrepresents them as individuals.

  5. Actually, both the article and Ari have it wrong. He has been known as “Dadi” Barnea since his graduate school days in New York back in the late 80s. He took over from Yossi (aka Joseph) Cohen back in 2021. He has never represented himself as Chareidi nor did the article.
