Erdogan Calls Israel A “War Criminal,” Israel Recalls Diplomats

Israel’s Foreign Minister Eli Cohen stated on Motzei Shabbos that Israel is recalling its diplomats from Turkey “in order to reevaluate the relations between Israel and Turkey.” The announcement came after Turkey’s president told a massive protest crowd in Istanbul that his government was preparing to declare Israel a “war criminal” due to its actions in the Gaza Strip.

Israel previously removed its diplomats from Turkey for security reasons.

Cohen’s statement suggested a move that could sever the newly restored diplomatic ties between the two countries. There was no immediate response from the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

Earlier Saturday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said during the pro-Palestinian rally that attracted hundreds of thousands of participants that his country planned to formally accuse Israel of committing war crimes in the Gaza Strip.

“Israel, we will proclaim you as a war criminal to the world,” Erdogan said, without elaborating on the mechanism he intended to employ or what the action would mean. “We are making our preparations, and we will declare Israel to the world as a war criminal.”

His office would not comment on his statement.

In his remarks at the Istanbul protest, Erdogan also held Western countries responsible for the more than 7,700 people the Hamas-led Health Ministry in Gaza said have been killed in the last three weeks.

He accused the West of failing to stop Israel’s intense bombing since Hamas terrorists smashed through the border and killed over 1,400 people and kidnapped over 200 people in southern Israel on Oct. 7.

Erdogan’s initial reaction to the Israel-Hamas war was fairly muted. He urged both sides to end the hostilities. Turkey said it was engaged in talks to try and secure the more than 220 hostages held by Hamas. It was not clear if those efforts were yielding any progress.

But the Turkish leader has stepped up his criticism of Israel in recent days, describing Israel’s actions in Gaza as verging on “genocide” and asserting that the Hamas group, considered a terrorist organization by Israel, the United States and European Union, is a group fighting for the liberation of its lands and people.

Turkey has hosted several Hamas officials in the past. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh in Qatar earlier in the week.

Turkey and Israel appointed ambassadors to their respective countries last year, opening a new chapter in diplomatic relations following years of tensions.

“Palestinians have learned the political value of invoking human rights rhetoric.

Indeed, Former U.S. State Department(*) official Alan Keyes has argued that by changing the terms of the Mideast debate from a political issue between Israel and the Arab states into a human rights complaint by occupied Palestinians, the PLO has won an undeserved political and diplomatic advantage.

Palestinian political organizations now present themselves as human rights organizations, and the media fall for it.”

The security of Israel is not assured.

Israel is the only nation in the world whose very existence is threatened by enemies, external and internal, supported by a majority of the United Nations.

It is the only nation in the world whose national movement, Zionism, has been
declared a form of racism by the United Nations.

IT IS THE ONLY NATION IN THE WORLD THREATENED BY GENOCIDAL WAR, THE PURPOSE OF WHICH
IS NOT MILITARY VICTORY ALONE, BUT EXTERMINATION.

THE GENOCIDE OF ISRAEL’S JEWISH POPULATION – a population roughly the size of the Polish Jewish population at the beginning of World War II – is not an unrealistic nightmare. Nothing today prevents it other than Israel’s military superiority over the combined Arab armies and terrorist organizations.

If the Arab armies and terrorists were capable of defeating Israel, destroying its Jewish population, and “reclaiming” ALL of current Israel, there can be little doubt that they would try to do so.

Indeed, if any Arab leader were militarily capable of destroying Israel, but refrained
from doing so, he would be replaced by someone who would at least try.

…Although there are some moderate voices within the Palestinian and Arab movements,
these voices are listened to only because Israel is too strong today to be defeated totally.

  3. I wonder what he said about Russia? I don’t recall him being so ruthless to them…and they went into Ukraine first… here, Israel is defending itself from the barbaric Palestinians.

  4. Ahh, they can go after the Kurds across their borders as they see fit but Israel has to ask their permission?? Let these Turks go once and for all. Who needs them? They have become a radical Islamist country under this idiots rule. Stop “reevaluating” every few years, he has shown his true colors multiple times. Turkey needs Israel alot more than Israel needs Turkey. Side with our enemies, sleep and eat with them. Don’t come to us when you need us.

  5. Let’s nor forget what this turkey did to thousands of his fellow turkeys when he quelled the uprising against him just not yet 2 years ago.
