Israeli security forces have thwarted a potentially devastating wave of terror attacks, including a planned bombing at a central Israel nightclub.
Shin Bet and the Jerusalem District Police arrested a father and son from the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Kafr Aqab last month on suspicion of plotting multiple attacks against both civilians and security personnel. A third man in his 20s was also taken into custody.
During the investigation, authorities uncovered bomb-making laboratories and dozens of ready-to-use explosive devices. Officials said the suspects planned to plant bombs at a northern Jerusalem checkpoint to target soldiers and police. They had amassed firearms, explosives, and bomb components, reportedly learning assembly techniques through online tutorials.
The father is accused of seeking financial support for the attacks from a terror organization. Before the current war in Gaza, he allegedly fired shots near the West Bank security barrier and trained his son in weapons use on their rooftop. The son — reportedly a Jew who converted to Islam after being barred from serving as a combat soldier in the IDF — is said to have intended to carry out the nightclub attack but never followed through.
Investigators also allege that the father sold explosives to an undercover police informant known as “Matrix,” whose work has led to numerous convictions in illegal arms trafficking cases.
In coordinated raids, security forces seized chemical materials, detonators triggered by electricity or SIM cards, dozens of pipe bombs, and large quantities of ammunition.
All three suspects remain in custody as the Jerusalem District Prosecutor’s Office prepares indictments.
