A four-year-old girl has died after being left in a closed vehicle for an extended period amid extreme heat in southern Israel, the Magen David Adom (MDA) ambulance service confirmed, calling it a “shocking case.”
The tragedy occurred near the Bedouin community of Ararat an-Naqab in the northern Negev. According to MDA, the child was transported to a clinic in the nearby town of Arara unconscious and without vital signs, suffering from severe heatstroke and burns on her body.
Medics launched resuscitation efforts but were ultimately forced to declare her dead at the scene.
Israel is currently in the grip of a severe heatwave, with temperatures in parts of the Negev soaring. Authorities have repeatedly warned of the dangers of leaving children in vehicles, even for short periods, as interior temperatures can rapidly become fatal.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
