IDF spokesperson in Arabic Avichay Adraee embarrassed Hezbollah on Friday by exposing intelligence information showing that the terror organization assassinated a senior Lebanese Christian politician in southern Lebanon.

Elias Al-Hasrouni, 70 at the time of his murder, was the Secretary-General of the Lebanese Forces party, Lebanon’s main Christian party, and was known as a fierce opponent of Hezbollah. Following the assassination, Hezbollah spread rumors that he was killed in a car accident. However, members of his party and residents of his village said several days later that he was abducted and beaten to death.

According to the information published by Adraee, on the night of August 1, 2023, members of Hezbollah’s Unit 121 ambushed Al-Hasrouni near his home in Ain Ibl and, after abducting him, murdered him using poison and broke his ribs. Afterward, in order to create the impression that he had veered off the road and died in a car accident, they placed Al-Hasrouni’s body back in his car, crashed it against a tree, and left it in a ditch.

Adraee noted that Unit 121, also known as Hezbollah’s surveillance and special operations unit, serves as the organization’s internal terror arm, through which it tracks opponents and carries out assassinations of journalists, Lebanese Army officers, politicians, and other opponents.

A previous victim of the unit is former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. The unit’s commander, Salim Ayyash, was convicted in 2020 by the UN Special Tribunal for Lebanon for his role in leading the assassination cell.
