HATE IN CITY HALL: Mamdani Transition Official Under Fire for Decade of Anti-Jewish, Anti-Israel Posts

A senior figure on Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s transition team is facing intense backlash after a series of social-media posts surfaced showing him using anti-Jewish slurs, praising Israel’s enemies, and directing vitriol toward Jewish public figures.

Hassaan Chaudhary — listed on LinkedIn as political director for Mamdani’s transition and inaugural committee — repeatedly used the word “Jew” as a derogatory insult, accused Israel of “barbarism,” and echoed genocidal rhetoric from Iranian leaders. The posts span more than a decade, including some as recent as late 2024.

Among the most alarming messages was Chaudhary’s praise for former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who infamously called Israel “a cancer which will be eliminated soon.” In a celebratory repost to Pakistani official Murtaza Solangi, Chaudhary wrote: “This banda is fearless,” amplifying Ahmadinejad’s threat.

He also invoked antisemitic language directly, responding to journalist Najam Sethi in 2012 with a phrase in Urdu roughly translating to “Jew will be your father” — a slur widely recognized as degrading and hostile.

Chaudhary reserved some of his harshest rhetoric for the Jewish state, calling Israel a “bloody country,” a “barbaric nation,” and accusing it of murdering innocent Palestinians. In one post he declared: “TALK about it. #stupid media.”

More recently, in December 2024, he reshared a message targeting pro-Israel Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro — a Democrat and a Jew — implying Shapiro would “give a medal” to someone who killed a Gazan toddler.

Chaudhary apologized Sunday, saying the decade-old posts “do not reflect my current views.”
