“Too Bad Hitler Did Not Make Soap Out of All of You”

The horrific statement was not made by a anti-Semite in Europe or by an Arab representative at the UN, but by a neighbor living at 4 Aaroni Street, an apartment building in Jerusalem inhabited primarily by elderly residents, most of them survivors of the Holocaust.

It is learned that these elderly residents have been subjected to harassment and worse for about seven years. It began when a younger resident decided to expand his storage facility at the expense of the buildings public area and garden. Neighbors objected but their complaints fell on deaf ears as the neighbor felt he could impose his will on the ‘helpless elderly tenants’.

The tenants however refused to be intimidated and they turned to the court, which accepted their case and issued a demolition order for the illegal addition to the storage area. The neighbor ignored the court ruling and brazenly continued with his plans and has since expanded and is working to expand even more. Neighbors have once again turned to the court, and police, but admit, sadly, police seem to disregard their pleas for assistance despite being armed with a Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court demolition order.

Attorney Ayelet Afik-Chachman, representing the elderly tenants, explains they are literally living with daily harassment such as the neighbor shouting “Hitler should have made soap out of all of you!”

Jerusalem police explain the neighbor is well known to them and has been called in for questioning on a number of occasions. “We suggest the elderly residents come down to the station and submit one formal complaint containing all the issues” police stated.
