President Trump on Thursday expressed confidence that the newly signed U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding will ultimately lead to the dismantling of Iran’s nuclear program and the disarmament of Hezbollah, while dismissing reports that Washington could impose a weapons embargo on Israel.
In an interview with Israel’s Channel 14, Trump rejected reports claiming the United States might halt weapons shipments if Israel continues military operations in Lebanon.
“I’ve never heard those rumors,” Trump said.
Addressing Hezbollah, Trump was unequivocal.
“Hezbollah has to be disarmed,” he declared.
Trump also warned that while he believes Iran will ultimately comply with the agreement, military action remains an option if it does not.
“I think we’re in a very good position,” he said. “They will agree, and if they don’t, they will be hit very, very hard.”
Asked whether the United States would stand by Israel if it chose to launch its own strike against Iran’s nuclear facilities, Trump responded, “If it’s not a significant attack, absolutely.”
Despite recent reports of friction between Washington and Jerusalem, Trump emphasized that his relationship with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remains strong.
Asked whether he still has a good relationship with Netanyahu, Trump replied, “A very good relationship. Excellent.”
