A 37-year-old Haifa resident is expected to be indicted after allegedly assaulting a police investigator outside a police station, apparently in retaliation for identifying him following his detention.
According to police, the incident began when officers encountered the suspect during routine operational activity and asked him to identify himself. After he refused, he was detained and taken to the local police station so officers could determine his identity using police databases.
Several hours later, after the investigator completed the identification process, she encountered the suspect outside the station. Police say he suddenly attacked her, punching her multiple times in what investigators believe was revenge for his detention and identification.
Officers from the Carmel District who witnessed the assault immediately intervened, subdued the suspect, and placed him under arrest.
The suspect has remained in custody since his arrest, with the court repeatedly extending his detention as the investigation progressed.
Police announced that investigators have now completed their probe and assembled what they described as a strong evidentiary case. A prosecutor’s declaration was filed over the weekend ahead of the expected submission of a serious criminal indictment, along with a request to keep the suspect in custody until the conclusion of legal proceedings.
Coastal District Commander Yechiel Bohadana condemned the attack, saying police will show zero tolerance for threats or violence against officers.
He stressed that officers risk their lives daily to protect the public and said the Coastal District will continue acting decisively against anyone who attacks law enforcement personnel.
