A shocking act of vandalism at a shul in Ramat Gan has sparked outrage among local residents and community leaders after a large concrete block was thrown through the entrance of Beis Medrash Minchas Chovev, shattering windows and causing significant damage to the building.
Mispallelim arriving at the shul this week were stunned to discover the destruction. According to community members, the incident follows a similar act about a month ago in which a mezuzah was torn from the premises. They say the latest attack marks an escalation and fear growing hostility toward religious institutions in the area.
Israel Police have opened an investigation and are collecting evidence from the scene. Security cameras are also being installed around the property. As of now, authorities have not identified any suspects.
The incident has fueled criticism from some congregants toward city officials, who argue that attacks against religious sites have not received sufficient public attention. One Mispallel told local media that while other incidents in the city have drawn swift condemnation, the attack on the shul has been met with silence.
Deputy Mayor and Security Portfolio Holder Zohar Yesharim strongly condemned the vandalism, saying damage to a shul is not merely an attack on property but a violation of fundamental values of religious freedom and respect for Jewish tradition. He said police are examining all possibilities, including the likelihood that the act was motivated by anti-religious hatred.
“Ramat Gan is a city of mutual respect, tradition, and tolerance,” Yesharim said. “We will not allow a small extremist minority to harm the sanctity of our shuls or the shared fabric of life in our city.”
