Gafne: Bet Shemesh’s Ambassador in Knesset

MK (Yahadut HaTorah) R’ Moshe Gafne announced he views himself as Bet Shemesh’s ambassador to Knesset.

“Bet Shemesh is close to my heart and it is my privilege to do whatever I can on behalf of the community” he is quoted by the daily HaMevaser as saying during a Knesset meeting with Bet Shemesh Mayor Rav Shmuel Abutbul.

Also present in the meeting were Bet Shemesh officials Deputy Mayor Shmuel Greenberg, and the city’s director-general and treasurer.

It was the first meeting between the two since Gafne was appointed as chair of the Knesset Finance Committee. The mayor called upon Gafne to assist the city, explaining there are “special needs” that do not exist in other municipalities.

During the one-hour meeting, they discussed the need for the development of industrial parks to provide employment as well as schools for the rapidly growing population. Gafne acknowledged the issues raised are indeed of paramount importance and he will do his utmost to move such projects along, explaining he is aware that too many school children are still using caravan rooms for classrooms.
