‘Barkat Has no Sechel (Intelligence)’

nb1.jpgAccording to Chaim Cohen, who is very close to Maran Rav Sholom Yosef Elyashiv Shlita, “This time, we are not dealing with a rasha (an evil person) but a person who lacks sechel” in his reference to Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat.

According to a report appearing in Ma’ariv from Avichai Ben-Chaim, the situation may lead to a coalition crisis as in the past, parties have broken away of Shabbos issues.

He is quoted as telling Ma’ariv that he chareidi community has yet to encounter someone like this, who simply lacks the intelligence to understand. He suggests to Jerusalem Police Commander Franco to withdraw his request to operate a parking lot on Shabbos for the true security threat to Jerusalem comes from the mayor.

Chareidi sources are reporting that persons close to Rav Elyashiv are threatening that if the mayor does not quickly understand there is no difference between the Carta or municipal parking lot, he will find himself out of city hall.

  1. It wouldn’t be helpful at this stage to label Barkat a rasha. But perhaps the dunce cap doesn’t fit him so perfectly either — he is, after all, an extremely successful businessman in high-tech, who manipulated divisions within Yerushalayim’s frum majority (as well as the media etc) to accomplish his dream/nightmare of returning the Iryah to chiloni control. So maybe he’s really just a shrewd Likud pol hoping to follow Olmert’s path from mayor to prime minister. Whatever we do at this point will be kfitzas haderech for him — that’s life among our anti-Chareidi brothers.

  2. is everyone forgetting how barkat won the election lack of acdus between the charadim if they would have voted together porush would have won and we wouldnt have been in this situation

  3. Notice the brilliance of our great leader framing his criticism of Barakat in terms of his intelligence.

Much better than calling him a sinner, which will only make the chllonim love him even more.
