Court Extends Remand of 6 Shabbos Protestors

arrest.jpgThe Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday extended the remand of six shabbos protestors until erev shabbos. As was reported earlier by YWN, 11 of the rioters were indicted as well. Police told the court last week’s motzei shabbos protest was violent and illegal. Police report they were attacked with rocks and bottles.

Attorneys representing the defendants report their clients deny the allegations leveled against them, explaining they were passing by when they were grabbed up by police, arrested and now face charges for doing nothing other than being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Rabbonim of the Vaad L’maan Shabbos stress the tzibur remains determined to fight the chilul shabbos and will not be deterred by police, who are trying to intimidate the chareidi population with brutality, false charges and actions that are simply unacceptable.

  1. By burning garbage dumpsters and throwing rocks, what has happened is that the police are then given an excuse to arrest anyone they want. I hope the Roshei Yeshiva find out who the “rioter” are and given a Meshebairach.

  2. I have a better idea for any American bochur that is arrested. instead of a mishaberach how about posting their names for all to see. instead of sitting in the bais medrash learning he is being mazik other peoples property and acting like a hoodlum.
the threat of a bad reputation and the chance to lose out on a rich shidduch back in the States will straighten out these hooligans in no time
