Knesset Committee Strips Arab MK of Parliamentary Immunity

The Knesset House Committee on Tuesday decided to remove parliamentary immunity from Balad MK Said Naffaa, clearing the way for a criminal indictment against him for contacting an enemy agent. YWN-Israel recently reported the lawmaker objected to the removal of his immunity, but the Knesset committee today decided to ignore his wishes and do so, against his will.

The entire matter surrounds Naffaa’s 2007 visit to Syria, a hostile nation, during which he met with senior commanders in the Islamic Jihad.

In response to the committee’s decision, Naffaa stated it was what he expected and he will fight to prove his innocence in a court of law. He told the media that he did nothing to compromise or harm state security.
