Elections for Ashdod Chief Rabbi on Tuesday

Ashdod will elect a new chief rabbi today, Tuesday. 48 people will vote, casting their selection in the ballot box in City Hall on Tuesday evening from 5:00pm-8:00pm. The results will be tabulated immediately.

Kiryat Malachi’s Rabbi Chaim Pinto Shlita is expected to emerge the new rav, supported by gedolei yisrael shlita.

In a related matter, elections for a chief rabbi of Ohr Akiva will be delayed as per a High Court ruling on a technicality. The names of candidates were not submitted in time.

This may impact Ashdod’s election today as well. At this time, it is unclear who is behind the residents filing the petition. As far as today’s election in Ashdod, it appears like in many other matters in Israel, the High Court of Justice may have the last word.
