US Defense Secretary Warns of Hizbullah Missiles

US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates on Tuesday accused both Syria and Iran of continuing to arm Hizbullah with rockets and missiles, releasing a statement that “We are at a point now where Hizbullah has far more rockets and missiles than most governments in the world.” Gates added that the United States is continuing to monitor the situation, speaking of the rockets and missiles with “ever-increasing capabilities” being supplied to Hizbullah.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak, who was meeting in Washington with Gates, added “We do not intend to provoke any kind of major collision in Lebanon or with Syria, but are watching closely these developments”.

Earlier this week, YWN-Israel reported that during a meeting in Washington between Defense Minister Ehud Barak and National Security Advisor James Jones, Barak furnished the Americans with proof of the allegations of Syrian involvement to furnish Hizbullah with Scud rockets.

This announcement by the senior American official places the entire situation in a new light, neutralizing Egyptian, Syrian and Lebanese statements released in the past week, accusing Israel of fabricating the allegations. It may also freeze President Barak Obama’s planes to resume diplomatic relations with Syria, appointing Robert S. Ford as America’s ambassador-designate to Damascus.

Interestingly, the Syrian state-run media questions if the defense secretary’s statement represents a turnaround in the US administration’s policy vis-à-vis Syria, or perhaps, it reflects the actions of a few in the administration who are interested in sabotaging renewed US-Syrian ties.

  1. Yeah, “the United States is continuing to monitor the situation”.
That will do us a LOT of good when they start launching them!
THEN, I guess obama will continue to monitor how many Jews get killed, to make sure Israel doesn’t use an “inappropriate” amount of retaliation.
Of course the Israel of today, unlike in ’67, would not have the saichel, the emunah, or the guts, to act PRE-EMPTIVELY, and destroy hezbolah BEFORE they attack, because that would anger his holiness hussein obama!

  2. Number 1 “AinOhdMilvado”

Do you think that this is a joke?? What about the billions and billions of dollars the U.S. has given Israel in the past 50 years?? You had a PRE-EMPTIVE comment before you thought.

  3. AinOhdMilvado, your paranoia regarding our under appreciated American government is like a sick disease. I prescribe you keep it to yourself because it is contagious. I wish you a refuah shelema and quick recovery. If we had more unpatriotic men like you around, we would be running rampant like chimpanzees. I advise you look up maseches pesachim daf 26b, I think you’ll find it particularly interesting in regards to your lack of emunah. Hatzlacha Berabim

  4. AinOhdMilvado, are you suggesting something by the usage of our dear Presidents middle name? You conveniently dropped it at the end of your incomprehensible little comment, in order to stain his otherwise staunch reputation. Hussein is just as pure and untainted a name as Yehezkel or Chananyah. Please keep that derogatory tone at a minimum. Hatzlachah Berabim

  5. AinOhdMilvado, your comment reflects the legitimate concerns that Israelis and their supporters have as a consequence of Obama administration policies. While America is a great friend of Israel, and has supported the Jewish state financially and diplomatically, nonetheless Obama’s fecklessness in the face of Iran’s looming nuclear threat to Israel is undeniable. His policy of breaking up or putting daylight between Israeli/American relations is singularly hostile, as are his efforts to bring pressure on Israel not to build homes within her sovereign territory unless they’re designated for non-Jews.

I want to express my dismay here over the personal attacks against you by die-hard partisans who persist in supporting President Obama, unlike 97% of Israelis who justifiably fear the man. I think you’re a good Jew and a fine American, and I wish your selectively amnesiac critics could remember that it was none other than Barak Hussein Obama who pridefully introduced himself by that very name they find so noxious to the crowds in Cairo when he traveled there to press the reset button by explaining to the Arabs that Jewish connections to Israel really stem only from the 20th century Holocaust in Europe.

  6. Mitzvosman123:
Should I burst your bubble? Do you know why Israel gets money from the USA? There’s a history behind it. A deal was made. Israel had to give Sinai back to Egypt. Sinai has oil wells so if Israel had it they would have a source of oil and money from the use and sale of that oil. Addiitionally, with Israel controlling Siinai we wouldn’t have to contend with the tunnels of arms and contraband that gets in to Gaza through Sinai. Its not as poshut as you say “Israel gets money.”

    Emes Vetshuva:
America for the most part has been a thorn in Israels side. Thank you america for the PLO thank you for Hamas. Thank you for the Intifadas. Thank you for Oslo. Thank you for not getting Osama Bin Laden when you had the chance and stopping him from creating the menace that is todays Al Qaeda. The same Al Qaeda that targets Jews in Yemen and is gaining a stronghold in Gaza as I write this.

    Thanks for nothing!

  7. I disagree, Mitzvosman123 & Emes Vetshuva do make an amazing point. I’m not sure exactly where “wellinformedyid” is coming from with these allegations but it is preposterous. America indeed has given billions to our land of Milk & Honey not only because in the incident of Sinai but as well as for their respect of all we have been through and support us. As well as for the comment torwards this mamish sechel tzadik -Emes Vetshuva he is NOT wrong against his beliefs in America doing us right, you cant blame them for all the “thank you America for this…and thank you America for that…” you CANT put blame on any1 for issues that is out of our hands. That is all i have to say but just for next time AinOhdMilvado & “WellInformedYid” chose your words just a little more carefully.
