14:55PM IL: Police, firefighters, MDA, Hatzolah and other units are responding to a major blaze in the Lifta area near the entrance to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv. The area has been closed down, resulting in heavy delays.

Preliminary reports cite three injured, apparently from smoke inhalation including an asthmatic.

UPDATE 14:59: The Lifta blaze is burning out of control. Area residents are being evacuated from their homes. There are firemen reportedly suffering from smoke inhalation and additional ambulances are requested.

The entrance to the city remains open at present but the exit to the Tel Aviv Highway is closed. Motorists are advised to use the Arazim Tunnel via Motza as an alternate.

  1. The fire started at several places at once.

It was started by a group of shababnikim, criminals of 14-16 years old wearing black jackets and hats (Litvishe). They were standing at the entrance to Givat Shaul bragging about their actions when I passed by.
