I can’t figure out why all those ambulances have to keep their lights flashing? Besides everything else, wouldn’t it potentially be blinding to a pilot possibly attempting to make a difficult landing?

It’s pretty much standard practice to leave them on while staged. The lights won’t blind the pilot: they’re primarily focused straight-ahead, not up.
