BREAKING: Florida Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick has been indicted for allegedly stealing roughly $5 million in FEMA emergency funds and laundering the money through shell entities.
Prosecutors say she then funneled portions of the illicit proceeds into her 2021 congressional campaign, violating federal election law.
The DOJ says the charges include wire fraud, money laundering, and making illegal campaign contributions. A conviction could bring a maximum sentence of up to 53 years in prison.
