New York Exploring Bid for 2042 Winter Olympics With NYC, Lake Placid Partnership

New York is exploring a bid to host the 2042 Winter Olympics, with events potentially split between New York City and Lake Placid. Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the creation of an exploratory committee to evaluate bringing the Winter Games back to New York for the first time since Lake Placid hosted in 1980.

Hochul said the proposal would combine Lake Placidโ€™s Olympic legacy with New York Cityโ€™s global reach, calling it a once-in-a-generation opportunity. The committee will spend about a year assessing whether a formal bid is feasible.
