MAILBAG: Reckless Yeshiva Boys Play In Flood Water In Lawrence, NY

This attached photo was taken just a few minutes ago, on Monday afternoon, in Lawrence NY. It shows a few Yeshiva boys, playing in their flooded street with a boat, and swimming in the flood waters. They perhaps are unaware that should a live wire hit the water, they be electrocuted.

Just look to the last hurricane, when a child and a hero-adult were both R”L killed when they came in contact with live wires.

How irresponsible of the parents, and reckless of these boys.

  1. With all due respect, one has no idea from the picture that these boys are Jewish, let alone yeshiva boys.

Additionally, the recklessness of these boys and their parents is equal no matter where these boys go to school.

  2. Are there live wires over that street? And maybe instead of posting their picture, how about notifying their parents?

  3. well, you wanted my view on this matter

why are they out there playing in the water instead of saying Tehillim for their safety?

  4. No, I don’t think “they be electrocuted” should a live wire hit the water. They’d have to come in closer contact.

(and why are they showing everyone these pictures? Yes they are a bit “boys” no need to publicize or broadcast their pictures / identity for posterity)

  5. HOW ON EARTH DO YOU KNOW THAT THESE BOYS ARE “YESHIVA BOYS”?!?!?!? THATS JUST CHUTZPA ESPECIALLY IN THE FIVE TOWNS WHERE NOT EVERYBODY ARE YESHIVA BOCHURIM WOW

  6. PLEASE CHANGE THE TITLE TO STORY!!!! WHY MAKE SUCH A CHILULL HASHEM ABOUT YESHIVA BOYS???? I BET THEY PROBABLY AREN’T EVEN IN YESHIVA!!! I WORK, BUT HOW DO YOU PUT A BAD NAME ON SUCH AN IMPORTANT PART OF OUR NATION???? WHY NO “FRUM BOYS PLAYING IN WATER”???

YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES!!!!!

  7. As an eyewitness to this event I can attest to the fact that this photo was taken at approximately 10am when the weather was calmer and the scene was safe, ie no live wires in the immediate area. Please don’t be so quick to make judgments.

  8. Obviously a neighbor took a picture and he/she would know if they are Jewish and if they are in a yeshiva. This isn’t Brooklyn where people don’t know their neighbors names….The Five Towns Community is a close knit community.

  9. To Vadim: Maybe you should learn the Rambam about nicknames. Maybe you should know what it is like having a mentally retded child. Your post is disgusting, unnecessary and demeaning. Making wrong decsions does NOT make a person “retarded” I would advise you to think before posting next time

  10. First of all – thanks # 7 for plagiarizing a screen name that I’ve used for close to 2 years now (adding a space doesn’t make it different). Second- when this picture was taken it wasn’t nearly as windy or serious as it is now. Third- teenage boys do stupid things all the time, it’s only when they grow older that they realize how dumb their actions where.
That still doesn’t excuse YWN for putting them in front of the firing squad and allowing comments.
J.K. From Lawrence hope someone’s around to take pictures of your kids and post them in a public forum, I’ll bet they’re all little angels.

  11. “This isn’t Brooklyn where people don’t know their neighbors names.”

Maybe the Loshon Hora of Brooklyn-bashing should stop?

Believe it or not, some of us DO know our neighbors’ names.

  12. Than you for posting this photograph of this this reckless behavior by these yungermen who should be in kollel or saying tehillim on behlaf of all those in the 5T who are at risk. Not only is this bitul torah but it shows what happens when we responsible parents and rabbonim allow their children and talmidim to go unsupervised.

  13. It’s actually a machlokes b’poskim as to whether the positive commandment to “guard one’s soul”, through playful exercise in water, is over-ridden by a sakkanah of electric wires. Since it is certain they will gain the benefits of exercise, and there is a doubt as to whether there is a risk of electrocution, the majority of poskim have ruled that one is permitted to play and splash in floodwaters notwithstanding the risk of electrocution.

  14. Like the writer never did aything foolish in his/her youth. This is done in nearly evry camp when there’s flooding along with mud sliding. Get a life.

  15. Jealousy knows no limits – even if the jealousee is being flooded. So out of true concern – blast them and their photo to the world.

    2. They are “Yeshiva boys” as much as this site is representative of the true nature of the “Yeshiva World”. Simple mathematics.

  16. A nocha brooklyn-hocker? Guys come up with something original like: samecarasmyneighbor or cholent4brains or 2dumb2Binhatzolah. Brooklynhocker is mine!

  17.
