VIDEO: New Attack Ad Goes After Quinn’s Efforts To Save Village Hospital

[VIDEO IN EXTENDED ARTICLE] For the second time this month, an independent group is using a television ad to attack Democratic mayoral candidate Christine Quinn.

The 30-second ad accuses Quinn, who is also the City Council Speaker, of not doing enough to keep Saint Vincent’s Hospital from closing three years ago, and then taking contributions from real-estate developers who want to build on the land.

Along with siren sounds and eerie music, the ad claims thousands of New Yorkers have been left without adequate medical care since the hospital closed in Quinn’s Greenwich Village District.

The ad comes from the political committee “New York City is Not For Sale,” the group behind another recent spot attacking Quinn for her stances on issues including living wage and sick leave bills.

The makers of the ad also made a mistake, claiming Quinn took more than $59,000 from the owners or employees of the Rudin Real Estate Company, which wants to develop the site Quinn actually took about half of that amount.

Quinn campaign spokesman Mike Morey fired back, saying, “This ad has blatant, egregious factual inaccuracies. When Saint Vincent’s declared bankruptcy, no one fought harder to make sure that the community continued to have access to critical healthcare services.”
