Congressman Dan Goldman Joins Lower East Side Jewish Community for Pre-Shabbos Challah Distributio

NEW YORK, NY — Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) spent the afternoon on the Lower East Side, celebrating the neighborhood’s rich Jewish heritage and connecting with constituents ahead of Shabbos.

The visit began at the historic Moishe’s Bakery, a beloved neighborhood institution and the last kosher bakery on the Lower East Side. The bakery is run by Mrs. Schreiber, a Holocaust survivor whose dedication has helped keep this cherished community landmark alive. While there, Congressman Goldman met with staff and discussed the importance of preserving the small businesses that remain such a vital part of the community’s identity.

Following the bakery visit, Congressman Goldman joined local volunteers to hand-deliver fresh challah to Jewish families in nearby apartment buildings. Going door to door, he greeted residents personally, listened to their concerns, and joined them in the warm, time-honored tradition of preparing for Shabbos.

“The Lower East Side remains the center of historic Jewish New York,” said Congressman Dan Goldman. “Visiting an iconic bakery like Moishe’s, a testament to resilience and survival, and then personally delivering their challah to my neighbors is a reminder of the strength of this community. It is an honor to represent a district where tradition and public service go hand in hand.”

The visit highlighted Congressman Goldman’s continued commitment to the diverse cultural neighborhoods of NY-10, as well as his support for the senior and immigrant populations who have called the Lower East Side home for generations.

Congressman Dan Goldman represents New York’s 10th Congressional District, which includes parts of Lower Manhattan and Western Brooklyn. He is committed to protecting democracy, strengthening community safety, and ensuring that the values, voices, and vibrant traditions of his district continue to thrive.
