IDF penetrates deep into Eastern Lebanon

The Israeli commando operation in eastern Lebanon early Saturday may have been aimed at Mohamed Yazbeck, a senior Hizbullah terrorist leader, Lebanese media reported. Details of the action, which was meant to be top secret, have been gathered from various media sources:

A Special Forces unit landed by helicopter about 17 miles from the Syrian border, unleaded two Hummer vehicles and drove them in the direction of Baalbek, the birth place of Hizbullah. Dressed in Lebanese army uniforms, the unit was intercepted by Hizbullah terrorist guerillas who opened fire on them after they became suspicious of their identity.

The Israeli Air Force flew planes over the area to drown out the noise of the helicopters. The IDF destroyed one bridge during the fighting, in which three Hizbullah terrorists guerillas and one IDF officer, Lt. Col. Emanuel Morano, was killed. Lebanon radio said that a power station was destroyed.

The units were said to be the best the IDF has. The operation’s details have not been released for publication but the IDF said the targets have been met.
