El Al closing it’s Chicago – Tel Aviv route

elal22.jpgGlobes is reporting that El Al will shut down the route linking Tel Aviv with Chicago via Toronto after Pesach. The main reason is that the planes were not filled to capacity.

The routes closing is scheduled to go into effect April 19, but the airline may expand code sharing agreements which will enable travelers to schedule a continuing flight from New York.

  1. If I recall, they have a code share with AA on some domestic routes. Perhaps they would code share on some flights from ORD to JFK. Of course you dont HAVE to fly ElAl to get to EY. Once you are connecting, AC has connecting service thru YYZ, CO thru EWR, and DL thru ATL.

  2. i think it may be worse than reported
as reported there still should be available flights through new york
but i just went to the el al website and tried to find flights from chicago to new york in april and may 2007, tried a number of days
every time it came back: “no flights available” !

mark in case you didnt understand my post, let me translate:
C to TA may be U. the NYR seems to be D as well as C to TA via TC. 🙂

  3. Mark is calling the airlines and airports by their code names

    CO – Continental
    DL – Delta
    AA – American Airlines
    AC – Air Canada

    ORD – Chicago-O’Hare International Airport
    EWR – Newark Airport
    ATL – Atlanta
YYZ – Lester B. Pearson International TORONTO, Canada

  4. DL=DELTA USED TO CODE SHARE WITH LY=EL-AL
AS OF FEB 4 07 THE SHIDUCH IS OFF AS DL IS STARTING THEIR OWN NON STOP SERVICE OUT OF JFK AS WELL AS THEIR CONTINUED CONNECTION FLIGHT OUT OF THERE HUB IN ATLANTA

  5. I would like to thank scy4851 for translating the roshay tayvos so feivel could understand. However feivel what you were really trying to say was that you just went to the LY website (www.elal.com) and tried to find flights from ORD to NYC during 4 and 5 of 2007, tried a number of days
every time it came back: “no flights available.”

Mr. Feivel let me help you. The reason it wasnt available was because LY did not fly that route meaning, if you got on in ORD (CHICAGO O’HARE INTERNATION AIRPORT), you could not get off in EWR (NEWARK AIRPORT) however you had to continue to TLV (TEL AVIV). ElAl did not operate “domestic” flights here in the USA.
