UK: First ever Jewish/Muslim radio show

mike.jpgThe first radio station in the UK ever to be run jointly by Jews and Muslims made history last Thursday night when it started broadcasting.

Radio Salaam Shalom, a project by students of two universities in England’s South West, has attracted media interest from around the world by bringing the two faiths together.

The station, which is broadcast over the Internet, features both Jewish and Muslim presenters and promises a mixture of music, talk and feature-led programmes.

But while Radio Salaam Shalom hopes to focus on the faiths’ often overlooked similarities and shared culture, bosses have also vowed not to “duck” the potentially divisive issues between them, such as the Israeli-Palestinian dispute, during live discussions.

A spokesman for the station said it will focus on “the many aspects of Jewish and Muslim life and allow two cultures which have been linked for thousands of years to talk together and share their experiences.”

The station is the voice of the “moderate majority” where people from both communities will have the chance to celebrate, debate and share the events, the spokesman added.

  1. There is a show on wabc radio here in New York featuring as hosts a Rabbi and a Catholic religious leader (I cannot remember what precise position he holds). There was a time long ago that they attempted to have someone representing the Muslim faith as a third host. It didn’t last long. Blink and you missed it. It will be interesting to see what happens here.

  2. joseph pataznik is not on with the priest anymore now he has someone else.. and that priest (paul keinen) was a ohev yesroel.. at least he acted that way on the air..

  4. I think they’re gonna need to broadcast with a BULLET PROOF glass separating them (I just realized that it won’t help because the ARAB will just BLOW himself UP & I still never of BOMB PROOF glass)

  5. Baki- First, I did not state that I listened to the radio show. I merely pointed out a fact, giving factual details. Please don’t fly off the handle for that. Second, if you’re quoting an issur, make sure it’s a “definitely” not a “probably” before leveling the accusation.
