WATCH: “Shushanian Rhapsody” in Baltimore

A few years back our family started an annual tradition of creating a music video & parody of a popular song as a fun creative way to re-tell the story of the Jewish holiday of Purim.

Just a bunch of kids (and a few adult children) having a good time. We hope you enjoy it!

Lyrics & Production: By Crazy Daddy

Original: Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen

Shushanian Rhapsody

[Intro] – Harmony
Is this for-real life? Is this just fantasy?
Rushing to Minyan, to escape from reality
Some close their eyes, some look to the skies, some scream
Come out to Shul boys, it’s quite a sight to see
In they come, out they go, some pray fast, some pray slow
Praying with a Minyan, seems like such a burden to me, to me

[Verse 1]
Rabbi, it’s that time again
Put tfillin on my head, stay awake, I miss my bed
Rabbi, I was very late
But now I’m just the 10th man anyway
Rabbi, ooh, why does ashrei make him cry
Will the chazan, still be here, this time tomorrow
He carries on, and carries on, as if nothing really matters

[Verse 2]
Mincha/Maariv, we’re back again
This guy sneezes all the time, that guys mumbles, that guy sighs
Goodbye, everybody, I’ve got to go
Gotta go somewhere I won’t be touching drool
Rabbi, ooh, (Minyan, Minyan, Minyan)
I don’t want to kvetch
But sometimes wish I’d never been born a boy

[Guitar Solo]

[Verse 3] –
I see alittle kid, with Cholent on his head
That’s my seat, don’t sit there, it’s my families minhag
Why is that guy singing, the-harmony is fright’ning me
(Shochen Ad) Shochen Ad. (Barechu.) Barechu. Venomar Amen (a-ha-men)
I’m just a guest here, nobody loves me
He comes to shul-with, his entire family
Why does the shtrak-guy, sit right next to me!
We’ve got 10, please just go, ad-olam let’s go!
Bris Milah! No, we will not let him go
(Let him go!) Youth minyan! We will not let you go
(Let him go!) Kiddush club! We will not let you go
(Let me go.) Will not let you go
(Let me go.) Will not let you ¬go. (Let me go.) Ahhhhh
No, no, no, no, no, no, no
(Oh Yetzer Hara, Yetzer Hara) have some mercy, let me go
My yetzer’s-making, this so very tough for me, for me, for me!

[Verse 4]
So you put on your talis and swung for the sky?
Your kids snack bag is so loud but I’m gonna try!
Oh, Heavens, focus up to Hashem and
I’m getting inspired, i’m gonna be part of the tzibur!

[Guitar Solo]

[Outro]
Minyan really matters, anyone can see
Tzibur really matters
Make some friends and smile more, PURIM

LaYehudim Haysa Ohrah…. Vesimcha

  1. Ha!! absolutely love the spirit! clearly done by a parent that knows how to carve out a moment and make it last. I’m sure the kids had great fun making this and will be “one of those things” that they’ll always remember
