Netanyahu Says ‘No’ To 1967 Borders

Responding to President Barack Obama’s major Mideast policy speech, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that Israel will not be withdrawing to the 1967 borders as part of a peace deal with the Palestinians.

The following is the statement by the Prime Ministers Office:

Israel appreciates President Obama’s commitment to peace.  Israel believes that for peace to endure between Israelis and Palestinians, the viability of a Palestinian state cannot come at the expense of the viability of the one and only Jewish state.

That is why Prime Minister Netanyahu expects to hear a reaffirmation from President Obama of U.S. commitments made to Israel in 2004, which were overwhelmingly supported by both Houses of Congress.

Among other things, those commitments relate to Israel not having to withdraw to the 1967 lines which are both indefensible and which would leave major Israeli population centers in Judea and Samaria beyond those lines.

Those commitments also ensure Israel’s well-being as a Jewish state by making clear that Palestinian refugees will settle in a future Palestinian state rather than in Israel.

Without a solution to the Palestinian refugee problem outside the borders of Israel, no territorial concession will bring peace.

Equally, the Palestinians, and not just the United States, must recognize Israel as the nation state of the Jewish people, and any peace agreement with them must end all claims against Israel.

Prime Minister Netanyahu will make clear that the defense of Israel requires an Israeli military presence along the Jordan River.

Prime Minister Netanyahu will also express his disappointment over the Palestinian Authority’s decision to embrace Hamas, a terror organization committed to Israel’s destruction, as well as over Mahmoud Abbas’s recently expressed views which grossly distort history and make clear that Abbas seeks a Palestinian state in order to continue the conflict with Israel rather than end it.

  1. So Israel will not withdraw to the borders that the United States is not asking them to withdraw to. (Obama was clear that there would be swaps of land in any peace agreement.) I’m glad they cleared that up for us.

  2. listen carefully, as you can hear the foot steps of Moshiach. The Ishmaelim are joining together so H”B can wipe them out and be carefull of the eagle and the bear

  3. They are all puppets b’Yad Hashem: Bibi, Obama, and the rest.

Ein lanu al Mi lismoch ela Avinu shebashamayim.

  4. to number # 3 yes the world is a puppet right now as it was in the time of Pharaoh once H”B “hardened his heart” the stage was set for Geulah, nothing then and now can stop the puppeteer, H”B, from controlling the show mankind has forsaken it privilege of free will.

  5. Netanyahu should not have rejected Obama’s proposal.
He merely had to insist that Obama s right in that the Palestinians must accept Israel’s right to exist.

It violates the Muslim creed to allow any none Muslim country to control an area that was once Muslim and especially Israel. Hence, this is a condition that the Arabs cannot accept. Remember, Arafat and abbas were both offered the deal that Obama is now proposing and they both rejected it.

By appearing to agree to everything, Netanyahu would look good, but riskes nothing as the Palestinians cannot and will not accept it.

  6. No. 1 said it exactly right. Prime Minister Netanyahu’s statement squares very well with President Obama’s proposal. I think Mr. Netanyahu has put some spin on his words, and it has made some of us (not No. 1, of course) dizzy and confused, but I am reasonably sure the spin is to keep his right-wing coalition partners on board.

  7. Nobody does Israel any favors by “recognizing” its right to exist. The Jewish State has the same right to exist as Jordan, Iraq, Syria, etc.

No, more so – because it was promised to the Jewish people by Almighty G-d, the Creator of Heaven and Earth. All the land in the word is His to give to whomever he chooses.

The Arabs have 22 states, and are allowed to emigrate and live wherever they want (including Eretz Yisroel). The Jews have ONE state and are prohibited from traveling to certain Muslim countries (Indonesia, e.g.)
