Arabs Seeking to Make Claims to Tzfas

Residents of the Old City of Tzfas report of late that groups of Arabs are seen walking around the community carrying large maps, and at times, stopping to paint some Arabic markings on homes.

They believe that they are either marking homes they would like to purchase, but more likely, they believe the Arabs are marking homes that they plan to claim under the PA (Palestinian Authority) ‘right of return’ for so-called ‘Palestinian refugees’.

One should remember that a number of years ago, PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) visited Tzfas to view the home in which he lived prior to the 1948 War of Independence. Abu Mazen reports the home is situated near the city’s central bus station, the home from which he was compelled to flee in 1948.

HaMevaser questioned Tzfas police officials regarding the actions of the groups, marking homes, and learned police report the matter was not reported to or handled by police and therefore, police officials are unable to comment. Tzfas Police Commander Ron Ofir explains that it would appear that residents did not file complaints with police and therefore, the details are not really known to him.

HaMevaser also reminds readers that recently, an Arab wearing a yarmulke was apprehended in a Tzfas yeshiva and handed over to police. The male was released following questioning.

The report adds that one local rabbi commented on Thursday “A number of years ago, it was most difficult to find a shabbos goy in Tzfas but to my sorrow, today, it is easy”.

Interestingly, a number of years ago, the city’s chief rabbi, Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu Shlita warned over the influx of Arabs in the city, comparing it to Akko. The prosecutor launched an investigation against him for incitement.
