Alleged Mossad Spy Granted Bail In Germany; ‘Can Return To Israel If He Wants’

Prosecutors say an alleged Israeli spy wanted in connection with the slaying of a Hamas leader in Dubai earlier this year has been set free on bail by a German judge.

Cologne prosecutors’ spokesman Rainer Wolf said after a closed-doors hearing Friday that the suspect known as Uri Brodsky is free to travel wherever he wants to go while judicial proceedings against him in Germany will continue.

He said: “He can return to Israel today if he wants to.”

  1. The United States almost never lets people out on bail who might flee the country; that was why Shalom Rubashkin was kept in prison during the entirety of his trial. The prosecutors probably don’t want to try this case and are probably hoping Brodsky will save them the trouble by leaving.

  2. One minute, he’s wanted for assisting to eliminate a terrorist or for applying for a false passport? There’s no mention of that. To be honest, I don’t really understand the German zeal over here. We aren’t talking about a criminal; this is someone who did this for his country’s, and the world’s, security. Only a country that is hostile toward Israel would pursue this.

  3. The extradition agreement with poland did not allow them to try him for espionage only for forgery.

Israel pulled of a secret diplomatic coup and the prosecution is basically encouraging him to leave.
