Power Restored After Outage At Newark Airport; Delays Reported [UPDATED 4:17PM EST]


3:10PM EST: [ALL UPDATES IN EXTENDED ARTICLE] Newark Liberty International Airport is experiencing a power outage, according to numerous reports via Twitter.

The outage has caused a shutdown of the AirTrain system as well as several elevators.

UPDATE 3:15PM EST: All 3 terminals are reportedly without power according to some reports. Others state that their flights are sitting on the runway and not moving..

UPDATE 3:21PM EST: The power has been off since at least 2:30PM EST, according to dozens of tweets from people inside the airport. Reports state that bathrooms are not working, no security screening is taking place….

UPDATE 3:32PM EST: ABC 7 Reports: A power outage has hit Newark Liberty International Airport and a large area of Elizabeth, New Jersey. Spokesman for the city says a large area is without power. PSE&G online outage map says over 10,000 customers in the city are without power. Officers and emergency personnel are out on the streets directing traffic because many traffic lights are out. Parts of Newark Airport’s Terminals A, B, and C are without power, officials said. Air Train is also out. The Newark Airport tower is not affected.

UPDATE 3:53PM EST: Towns include parts of Hillside, Elizabeth, Union, Newark, Roselle, Linden, Kenilworth and Irvington. The cause of the problem appears to be equipment failure at the company’s Bayway switching station in Elizabeth.

UPDATE 3:56PM EST: Messages on Twitter are stating that the power in the airport has been restored.  Unknown if this means generators have been powered on, or power has actually been restored. @chrisbrogan  writes: “Lights just came back on at Newark Airport to loud cheers”

UPDATE 4:17PM EST: PSE&G says all New Jersey power has been restored including Newark Airport, but expect delays at the airport. Call your airlines.
