TSA To Aide In NYC Subway Bag Searches

(Friday, April 23rd, 2010)

The New York City Police Department is using a dozen explosives experts from the city’s airports to help them with bag searches in the subway.

Transportation Security Administration members will work with police at stations around the city as they conduct random searches.

Using Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response (VIPR) teams, TSA is implementing a pilot program to assist with mobile screening of passengers’ bags. Random and unpredictable security measures, like mobile screening and VIPR teams, can regularly be seen at anytime throughout airports, in rail environments and at transit stations across the country.
