NYC Wants Communities to Help Create ‘Slow Zones’

(Saturday, November 26th, 2011)

The city transportation officials are asking communities to tell them where drivers need to slow down in their neighborhoods.

The city Department of Transportation is accepting applications for “slow zones” where the speed would be reduced from 30 to 20 miles per hour.

According to the agency’s website, a zone will be a “self-enforcing, reduced-speed area.” It will be denoted by speed bumps, markings and other “traffic calming treatments.”
