The city transportation officials are asking communities to tell them where drivers need to slow down in their neighborhoods.
The city Department of Transportation is accepting applications for �slow zones� where the speed would be reduced from 30 to 20 miles per hour.
According to the agency�s website, a zone will be a �self-enforcing, reduced-speed area.� It will be denoted by speed bumps, markings and other �traffic calming treatments.�
A city councilman who represents parts of Staten Island and Brooklyn tells the Staten Island Advance on its website Friday� that �the key is finding the right streets.�
Councilman James Oddo says people speed on Staten Island �just about every day on every street.�
Applications must be received by Feb. 3.
