Fears of Missionary Onslaught in Israel Over Yom Ha’Atzmaut

Over the course of the next few days, with the pinnacle being on Yom Ha’Atzmaut itself, hundreds of Missionaries from numerous countries are scheduled to descend upon Israel. According to reports in the Israeli media, the missionaries will be touring Israel as part of an extensive campaign on behalf of various Christian sects to convert Jews whom they can meet out in the open.

According to warnings put out by the counter-missionary organization, Yad L’Achim, the missionaries hail from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Russia, and South Korea. As hundreds of thousands of Israelis will be spending the day outdoors, the missionaries can simply walk over and strike up a friendly conversation with them.

“We have already received hundreds of calls from citizens all over the country complaining about the missionary offensive currently taking place,” said a spokesperson for the organization.” Christian missionaries come here to convert the religion of the citizens of Israel and, as such, constitute a danger to the foundations of Jewish life in the country.” The organization said that it appealed to the Interior Ministry asking them to ban the missionaries from entering the country.

“They mislead enforcement authorities and identify with border inspectors as tourists, whereas, in fact, they have come for missionary purposes only. The struggle of the Interior Ministry must be identical to the determined and successful struggle against the BDS people,” said one of the leaders of Yad L’Achim Rabbi Shmuel Lifshitz.
