Jerusalem Bus Ads to Include Women

egednnIn a new agreement signed between Egged and the Canaan advertising agency, approved by government officials, Egged bus ads in the capital will begin showing women. As an incentive for Canaan, the government has agreed to assist in covering the costs of buses that will be vandalized.

Back in the summer of 2012 Egged bowed to mounting chareidi pressure and attacks against buses carrying immodest ads and stopped showing women in bus ads. The company showed it did not wish to discriminate and announced men would not appear in ads either.

When Egged refused an ad containing a woman from the Yerushalmim party in the capital, the party filed suit with the Supreme Court. This led to the new agreement which remains in effect till the end of 2014.

  1. You can be sure the secular ad agency will not filter out immodest photos. They wouldn’t even know an immodest photo is immodest.

Other than your calling this “nonsense”, your point is a fair one, but only because Israel is the greatest “nihye kiChol haGoyim” in history.

As to your calling it “nonsense”, given the theology of MO (and some well-known MO practices), it is understandable that your sensitivities in this matter are lower than that of traditional Orthodoxy, regardless of your own particular hanhagos, whatever they may be.

What a name for an ad agency, incidentally…

Presumably, you are familiar with our sages’ dictum “Kol kivuda bas melech pinima” and, further back, Avraham Avinu’s response of “Hinei BaOhel” to the Malachim’s inquiry of “Ayei Sara Ishtecha”.

In other words, there is no such thing as a modest ad featuring a female model, no matter how modestly she is (or is not) dressed.

By definition, the express purpose of an ad is maximum exposure, unlike, say, a trip to the grocery store which is not for the purpose of any exposure. So even if the type of clothing is identical in both circumstances; this makes the ad a non-starter.

  4. the women in these ads are obviously not dressed in a tsnius manner. This is such a shame that the bus company in the holy city of Jerusalem can’t respect religious sensitivities. I vote to ban all advertising on buses-egged makes enough money!!

  5. The advertisements should not be torn down or defaced. Since the express purpose for Egged to sell advertising space on their vehicles is to make money, the concerned public should boycott Egged for a day or two, so that Egged feels it in their pockets. That is probably the only language they understand.

Yiur stupidity is boundless. Thanks for reminding us frum Jews why we despise clowns like you who are an embarrassment to our religion. The taliban is looking for recruits like you!

  8. The yetzer hora is called old and wise as it has lots of experience and does things in clever ways. If we don’t put a stop to this, it will make lots of young innocent children exposed to these things which will eventually lead them to hang around with girls and leave the Torah ways. It is a test from above but we MUST put a stop to it.
