Some Chareidi Women Seeking Knesset Representation

knessetA number of women who identify with the chareidi community on Tuesday 22 Teves turned to the Central Election Committee calling to have women included in the lineup of the chareidi parties; Yahadut Hatorah, Shas and Eli Yishai’s party.

They explained to Justice Salim Jubran that the current situation, which is a lack of female representation in Knesset and local government, is intolerable. The women, Emunah Whitt, Michal Avichar, Ruth Kolian, Ruti Yehoshua and Mazel Churi are activists in their communities.

They told the election committee in their petition that they are prevented from actualizing their civil rights due to the failures of the system.

  1. why dont they start their own party? oh yeah, i forgot, no one will vote for them!

seriously, kol kvuda bbas melech pnimah, if they want a say all they need to do is tell the mk wives to nag the mks

  2. Unless the Charedei Olam deals with working Charedim, right-wing Charedim & professional women, the demise will come closer than expected.

  3. mbachur: That’s a good one: Let them start their own party! I just hope that it doesn’t cause trouble for the chareidi parties and the “justice” decides to force them to take women.

  4. #2. The same thing that happened when men violated their Kesuvah’s and have the women supporting them.

Still, they are barking up the wrong tree. It’s not for the Central Election Committee to decide who is on a party’ list.

Either join another party, create one or don’t vote to put pressure on, but using the government to get them on a list is ridiculous.

  5. You can’t claim “kol kvoda bas melech penimah” and then send the women out to work. The overwhelming majority of Chareidi wage-earners are women (two to one!).
Because we are “out there”, we are more aware of the issues than the men are. Our needs are also different. Women, for example, may fight harder in Knesset for better eldercare because they are the ones taking care of aging parents.

  6. Why not let some of the MKs be women? Who is hurt by this? We send our women out to the real world to work for us, why cant they vote for us?
