Rav Shalom Cohen: Ramot to Observe Purim on 15 Adar

Cohen, Rav ShalomFor Sephardim living in the Ramot neighborhood of Yerushalayim, one can only imagine there is an element of confusion. For those who followed Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef ZT”L they acted in accordance with Maran’s psak and observed Purim in Ramot on the 14th of Adar.

However, Rishon L’Tzion HaGaon HaRav Yitzchak Yosef Shlita announced his ruling regarding the observance of Purim for residents of Ramot, and he feels the observance of Purim should be on the 15th, as is the minhag of Ashkenazim in that neighborhood.

Then Jerusalem Chief Sephardi Rabbi HaRav Shlomo Amar released his psak, maintaining the psak of Maran still holds and Purim should be the 14th.

Now comes HaGaon HaRav Shalom Cohen Shlita who heads the Shas Torah Council, concurring with the psak of Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef, that Purim should by the 15th, as is the custom of the vast majority of Jerusalemites. This psak is signed by a number of rabbonim as well including Rabbi Aaron Abutbul, Rabbi Ben-Moshe, Rabbi Avraham Daniel, Rabbi Yehuda Druzi, Rabbi Shalom Chazon and Rabbi Mordechai Toledano.

  1. another words: those who follow Deri & Shas must observe Purim on 15 of Adar, and those who side with Yishai and Yachad should follow Maran’s path on Adar 14

  2. #3, look up the previous articles. The reason why they changed the psak is because certain things changed and they tried connecting Ramot with the rest of Jerusalem.
Even in the original article with R’ Amar’s psak, he said that as of now he still has to look into it.
