Restrictions on the Sale of Knives for Arab Merchants in the Area of Shar Shechem

knIn response to the numerous Islamic terror attacks in the area of Shar Shechem, Jerusalem city Hall has prohibited Arab merchants in the marketplace from selling knives and sharp objects for the time being. This pertains to the stores lining the so-called Arab shuk on Chaggai Street as one heads from the gate to the Kosel in an effort to create a more security friendly environment.

The ban on knives includes peelers and sharp objects. The city promises spot inspections to make certain vendors are in compliance with the new regulation.

The head of the Shar Shechem Merchants Association, Ahmed Arqi says “The situation is awful and we are barely making a living for both the Jews and Arabs are not coming. Inspectors are here all the time checking us, determining what we are selling and if they find one is selling a prohibited item he is fined. Many merchants are preferring to remain at home instead of possibly getting fined”.
