Chazon Ish Eyeglasses Sold For $17,000

1A number of weeks ago, YWN-ISRAEL reported that glasses worn by the Chazon Ish, a dollar from the Lubavitcher Rebbe ZT”L and other interesting items were being auctioned.

A group of optometrists from the USA and Israel purchased the Chazon Ish eyeglasses, paying an impressive $17,000.

It appears the group of three have worked out a deal by which the eyeglasses will be displayed in all their stores on a rotating basis.

  1. The Chazon Ish’s family disposed of all his clothes, and personal possessions right after his levaya, with the expressed purpose of preventing any “holy shroud” sort of situation from arising. How this pair of glasses survived intact for 63 years with no one knowing about it is a rather huge question.

  2. It used to be a photo of a godol that was used as advertisement for a store, or a substitute for a hechsher at a pizza shop.
Now it will be the glasses. What is next? A pair of shoes, a towel, a spoon? When have Yidden become like this?
Having a set of the Chazon Ish in the waiting room would be far more authentic and would show the customers the true values of the proprietor, as well as getting the customer to learn a Yiddishe vort. I really think that the great Chazon Ish zatzal would readily agree.

  3. From the books i read I always assumed the chazon ish was an anav.
If so why was he walking around with a $17,000 per of eyeglasses??
