Israel: Meimad May Leave Labor

(Wednesday, October 29th, 2008)

The left-wing religious Meimad Party, which in past years existed under the Labor Party banner following a merger, appears to be preparing to break away, the daily Yisrael HaYom reports.

This appears due to the fact that some of the Laborites are beginning to work to obtain a higher place on the party roster, aware that anyone over the 11th slot may not find himself in the next Knesset.

To date, the 10th slot was reserved for a Meretz representative but Labor may be compelled to change this due to internal pressure, which may result in Meimad ending the cooperation merger agreement.

“To date, the 10th slot was reserved for a Meretz representative” – is this a typo?
