Police Fear Rosh Chodesh Violence At The Kosel Due To Women Of The Wall Provocation

koselThe Women of the Wall (WoW) organization has announced it will be hosting a “Bat Mitzvah” at the Kosel including ‘Hanochas Tefilin’ on Monday, 2 Rosh Chodesh.

Police are preparing for an unfortunate scenario, violence at the Kosel which may include confrontations between the women and frum mispallalim.

Frum Jews are planning to come in large numbers as well to confront the woman. The timing is critical too as the nation’s High Court of Justice is contemplating a number of petitions regarding the egalitarian prayer area at the Kosel. The chareidi parties have threatened to bring down the government over the matter, unwilling to accept the alternative prayer arrangement in the confines of the Kosel.

The Liba Center is calling on the masses to come to the Kosel on Monday morning to oppose the Women of the Wall.

The daily Haaretz quote WoW leader Anat Hoffman reporting police have called on her to cancel the event, or hold it in a fenced-off area near the Kosel to prevent confrontations. Hoffman has rejected the police request. She adds that she was told police will only be able to intervene to assist them if requested to do so by Kosel Rav Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz Shlita as he is in charge of security in the confines of the Kosel.
